Elixir Guitar Strings
Elixir Guitar Strings
Elixir Strings have proved to be an enormous success with professionals and enthusiasts alike. Players say that their tone lasts longer than with any other string which means that strings need to be replaced less often. We are pleased to offer Elixir guitar strings here at the London Guitar Studio and feature NANOWEB® light, medium light, medium, extra and custom strings in our range. Why not give them a try?
The History of Elixir Guitar Strings
The team at Elixir hadn't originally intended to produce guitar strings but were actually trying to develop an improved variety of push-pull cable! They had been using guitar strings as part of the testing process. As a couple of the team members were guitarists themselves they started to wonder if they could use their expertise in coatings to produce better guitar strings for musicians.
Elixir were looking for the perfect coating so that the guitar strings could be protected from dirt and corrosion without impacting the tone that they produced. The material the team were working with at the time was polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) which proved to be rather useless when it came to guitar strings so they began to experiment with other materials. They studied string tones, quantified sustain rates and measured frequencies in their pursuit of perfection. They also invested in new testing equipment and kept experimenting until both their equipment and their scientists were telling them that they had a potential success on their hands.
The next step was to test Elixir guitar strings with guitarists as there is no substitute for the musician's ear. The feedback they received was good so they improved the strings further and finally arrived at the impressive versions that are available today. The range features guitar strings with the original Elixir POLYWEB® Coating and ultra-thin NANOWEB® coating. Basically these are a microscopically thin, advanced polymer tubes that surround the strings to protect them.
