The Story of Alhambra
Alhambra are today so highly regarded that it's sometimes hard to believe that the company began almost by chance. Founder Martinez Clavel went into the guitar business simply because he lived opposite a guitar factory in Valencia and it always appeared to be busy. Clavel thought he was looking at a good opportunity, and he was. The only trouble was, he didn't really know much about guitars at the time and especially didn't know how to make them. He did, however, know Ricardo Llorens who was a maker of wooden moulds.
Lloren's boss José María Vilaplana was prepared to help and the team managed to produce an instrument. The new company was called Manufacturas Hachi and operated from an old stable in 1962 but by 1965 Clavel had moved on and the fledgling business was running into financial trouble. It was rescued by José Botella who had bought a friend to Manufacturas Hachi to buy a guitar. He heard about the problems and together with his father raised the required money to invest in the business. The father and son took over the company, renamed it Manufacturas Alhambra and took it to the next level. Alhambra has since become a famous and well respected manufacturer of guitars including for their range of Flamenco guitars.
Today the dedicated team at Alhambra produce the highest quality Flamenco guitars using their amazing craftsmanship and the finest materials. Alhambra is the largest producer of classical guitars in Spain. Traditional skills and methods are partnered with the latest technology. Many of the craftsman have stayed with Alhambra all of their working lives and so it is no surprise that they create hand crafted instruments that are second to none.
