Martin Electro Acoustic Guitar 000-18E Retro

Based upon a beautiful original 1940's 000-18 guitar from the Martin Museum collection, this short scale 000-18E electro acoustic model produces clear and expressive response for stage or studio use. The Martin 000-18E is a faithful modern replication of the vintage sound of Martin's Golden Era, and their pre-war era guitars are in demand now more than ever.

The Martin 000-18E Retro is a guitarist's dream: authentic vintage appointments and styling but cutting edge modern electronics to make the best use of the 000-18E Retro on stage or in the studio!

With a similar construction to the Standard Series 000-18, the Retro features solid Stika Spruce top with solid Sapele back and sides, the benefit of solid wood being that it gives the guitar the ability to mellow and 'break-in' with age: Martin describe it by saying that no matter how good it sounds on day 1 that is the worse it will ever sound! It also features a dovetail neck join and mahogany blocks, a construction method saved only for Standard Series and other premium Martin guitars. Building a guitar with a Dovetail joint takes more skill but the dividend is knowing that your guitar and neck were handcrafted for each other the traditional way not just assembled ad hoc!

The Retro is designed to look like a vintage 000-18 so 'bean' Grover Nickel V97-18NA Sta Tite tuners have been used and the top is finished with 'aged toner' nitrocellulose for a very subtly aged look. The Fishman F1 Aura Plus Retro pickup applies Aura imaging presets to the tone so you can get the tone of a studio recording with a high quality microphone in a perfect acoustic space!

Here's what Martin say about the 000-18E Retro

Martin's groundbreaking Retro Series represents the most significant advancement of our era in amplified acoustic sound. Based upon a beautiful 1940 14-fret 000-18 "donor" guitar from the Martin Museum collection, this 24.9" short scale model produces clear and expressive response for stage or studio use. With modern performance and playability, the 000-18E Retro offers the visual and tonal integrity of the mahogany auditorium guitars from the pre-war era.
