The idea of transcribing Bach's Goldberg Variations goes back to 1987. At that time I have been listening for weeks on end to Glenn Gould's piano recording, and I became convinced that this would work well on the guitar. First, I thought of a version for guitar duo, but lacking a duo partner I decided to try making the "impossible", possible. This edition is my result.
The source used for my work was the recently found original edition of the work with emendations and additions in Bach's hand. This edition is now housed in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
