Takamine Guitars

Founded over 60 years ago in 1959, Takamine started life as a family-run business in Sakashita, Gifu prefecture, and takes their name from Mount Takamine, which towers over the town.

Within just 10 years Takamine had expanded beyond its humble beginnings to become one of Japan's leading guitar manufacturers, specialising in Classical guitars and Mandolins.

The close partnership, and subsequent involvement as head of production and design, with luthier Mass Hirade saw the company develop even further and perhaps most importantly, expand into international markets.

Throughout their history Takamine has been an innovative manufacturer and can be considered pioneers in aspects such as precision aesthetics and inlay work, as well as the development of electro-acoustic guitars.

In addition to their precision approach to inlay, Takamine employs great attention to detail throughout their construction and finishing, both inside and outside their instruments. There is special attention paid to frets which are finished with laser-guided precision to ensure clarity when played. Other features you may come across on some Takamine guitar models include ergonomic necks that are shaped asymmetrically for player comfort, as well as compensated split-saddle bridges for enhanced acoustic accuracy.
